What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of mind and body in which you communicate suggestions to your subconscious mind. This part of your mind influences what you think, how you feel and the choices you make.

Hypnosis can be described as an altered state of consciousness. We go into altered states of consciousness every day. Have you ever driven to work, arrived at your destination and not remembered how you got there? Or been so engrossed in a film or book that you lost track of time or not realised someone was talking to you? These are just every day examples of an altered state of awareness and consciousness.

The unique difference is that hypnosis can be used for self-change to improve and gain more control in your life by releasing negative, unrealistic or self-limiting thoughts and beliefs. It is about accessing the power in you.

Experiencing Hypnosis

When you experience hypnosis you will be extremely comfortable and relaxed. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis; there is nothing supernatural or unnatural about it. You cannot be hypnotised to do anything you don’t want. Hypnosis is simply a natural state of mental, physical and emotional relaxation along with a heightened state of awareness.

When you have your baby using HypnoBirthing®, you will be conversant and in good spirits – totally relaxed. You will be aware of your body’s contractions but will be able to determine the extent to which you feel the surge. You will experience your baby’s birth in an atmosphere of calm relaxation, without the fear and tension that cause pain. When you are so relaxed your body’s natural anaesthesia (endorphins) will replace the stress hormones that create pain. Baby is born in comfort.
